Blood is mentioned over 100 times in Macbeth. What are the most significant references to blood in the play? As a psychological symbol, what does blood represent for Macbeth and Lady Macbeth?
blood represents a symbol of power. In the beginning the killed Duncan so Macbeth could be King and then they killed Banqou and attempted to kill Fleance to destroy Banquo’s blood line.
i feel that blood represents their sins they have made and that they cant wash it from their conscious.
Blood is something that keeps people alive. Lady Macbeth is like blood to Macbeth and vice versa. Blood is also a symbol of power and strength. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were the power couple of the play. When LMB was sleep walking, she was trying to wash KD’s blood off her hands; which shows that she was feeling some type of stress or remorse for killing him.
The blood represents a symbol of loyalty and pride in battle. For Macbeth and Lady Macbeth it represented the guilty that they felt for killing Duncan.
Word, Devante. Right on.
What is this? This 80’s? Right on? What? Brandon you are stuck in a decade we weren’t even born in. #BrandonCantInternetProperly2013
On another note, I agree with you Devante. The blood symbolized the guilt that is permanently imprinted onto their mental states.
for macbeth and LMB, BLOOD symbolizes as a key to continue to their next step in their plan. after macbeth killed king duncan, he captured the opportunity in becoming king
I think the blood they see on their hands throughout the play symbolizes the guilt of killing people that were undeserving of murder.
I believe that the blood on the hands of LMB when she was sleep walking was the biggest symbol of blood. I think the blood represents guilt and treason, something that they can never forget.
The most significant reference to blood is when Macbeth says washing his hands with water will not clean them, rather it will turn the water red. Blood symbolizes guilt and that is why they want to wash it away so quickly.
The Blood reps guilt, hope for the future, and selfishness for LMB and MB
I agree with Danielle. The blood symbolizes their guilt and they want to be rid of it as soon as possible.
